A. It has become the industry benchmark in Southern Africa for securing Goods in Transit (‘GIT’) and often a requirement by Insurers, cargo owners and freight forwarders alike. Part of the certification process includes basic vetting and referencing, as well as providing a security blueprint for compliance by all certified hauliers when transporting copper or other high value cargo.
Completion of a 5 page Carrier Pro-forma Questionnaire providing basic information on a haulier’s company profile, fleet size, cross-border routing, GIT claims, security measures on trucks and transit procedures adopted to minimise thefts of cargo in transit, among other things. A minimum of THREE references will be taken from reputable referees to verify their existence and performance rating.
It can take 2-3 days provided the Carrier Questionnaire is fully completed and returned to DPS March. The average time including taking up of references is 5-7 days.

Yes, the DPS March logo can be used for such purposes.
Hauliers caught transporting copper or other HVC in breach of the security blueprint or ‘Subjectivities’ listed on their certificate and forming part of their compliance can have their DPS March Certification suspended for first breach. A second breach of compliance could result in their Certification being cancelled for up to one year.
A suspended haulier can apply for reinstatement provided they are able to prove that the one or more breaches of ‘subjectivities’ has been rectified and they are now fully compliant. A reinstatement charge will apply.
